They are people from Benin and tourists from other African countries and from Europe, Haiti, Brazil and the Americas to enjoy or witness the celebration of the various deities in Voodoo cult.
Deities include the water goddess Mamy Watta (Mermaid), the god of thunder Ashina, the earth god Sakpata, the god of iron and blacksmiths Ogou, the warrior god Kokou.
“We are pleased to host on the land of our historic city Ouidah, people of the African Diaspora”, Severin Adjovi, mayor of Ouidah said.
Mayor Adjovi underscored that the celebration is to recall that voodoo is the cement of a typically African culture and the basis of an unprecedented outreach in which all Africans will feel as sons and daughters of the same civilization rich in tradition, belief, and intangible heritage.
For his part, Barnabe Dassigli, Minister of Decentralization and Local Governance believes that endogenous religion festivities are opportunities to promote the diverse traditional cults in Benin.
