Those using desktop computers to search on Google could soon be left behind. This has been confirmed by the firm as it is altering the way its search function works so that
people searching on mobile get more up-to-date results.
Currently, all Google users get the same search results whether they're using smartphones, tablets or a computer. But the latest move could create a 'second class' of web surfers, as warned by experts.
The update
was announced by Gary Ilyes, a webmaster trends analyst at Google, at
last week's Pubcon digital marketing conference in Las Vegas. The
firm is set to introduce a 'primary index' for mobile searches, while
those using desktops to search will be relegated to a second-class
service which won't be updated regularly.
The move to make mobile search results a priority will take place in the next few months, Mr Ilyes said. In
May 2015, Google revealed that searches on mobile devices had over
taken those made in computers in the US and many other parts of the
world.
