A 24-year-old Mary Beth Haglin,who has been having sex with a 17-year-old student for much of the 2015-2016 school year, is accusing the Cedar Rapids Community School District of allowing her to have sex with the student.
“These people all knew what was going on, and yet they turned a blind eye because they wanted to protect their school. They didn’t want it to get into the limelight,” Haglin told KGAN-TV, explaining that she first had sex with the boy last October. She is blaming the school authorities for being unconcerned about her illicit love affair with a minor.
“They didn’t ban me,” Haglin told The Cedar Rapids Gazette. “They never actually said they were banning me from school grounds, they never said they were banning me from working at any other school, they never said they were banning me from thus-and-so many feet of any school. They never said any of that.”
Despite her accusations and casting of blame, Haglin said she does acknowledge her mistake.
“I do take responsibility,” Haglin told KCRG. “I’m not shying away from this. I’m facing this head on.”
