Handless 1st-Grader Wins National Handwriting Contest


 Anaya Ellick, a first-grade student at Greenbrier Christian Academy (GCA) in ,Virginia, has won  the Nicholas Maxim Special Award for Excellence ( a national handwriting contest) in Manuscript Penmanship has become a hero.  Anaya received for herself a large trophy and a check for $1,000. Her determination and spirit is an an inspiration for others kids to emulate. 


Anaya Ellick, seven-year-old girl born without hands in Chesapeake, Virginia, does not use prosthetics. Instead, she uses her forearms to write.
She beat out 50 other competitors to win the special-needs category prize at the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest.

The category consists of students with intellectual, physical or developmental disabilities, and Anaya's impressive work was picked to be the best of all.
"There is truly very little that this girl cannot do," Tracy Cox, Anaya's principal  told ABC News.
"She is a hard worker," Cox said. "She is determined. She is independent. She is a vivacious and a no-excuses type of young lady."
