A bronze life-size statue of reggae icon Bob Marley has
been erected in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at a roundabout in the Gerji
area, its been named after the reggae legend himself.
Bob Marley is highly celebrated as one of the most renowned personalities in reggae music, a legacy which has transcended the borders of a small island and catapulted
onto the International stage.
This stature was unveiled by city officials on Saturday, April 19, 2015 and as the world is celebrating the life and legacy of the Reggae
Ambassador, International Superstar, Global Humanitarian on
Saturday, February 6, 2016, it is very important that this important news is brought to those who have no knowledge of it, Ethiopian sculptor, Bizuneh Tesfa created it.
The statue in Ethiopia was initiated by brothers Zeleke Gessese, a
musician, Addisu Gessese a music promoter and business man Awad Mohamed
in commemoration of Bob Marley’s 70th birthday celebration. It was Bob
Marley’s love, proclamations and philosophical link to the country that "fired" the idea in the contributors.
Bob Marley speaks highly of Ethiopia by his reggae and the rest of the
African diaspora, hence it was therefore right in the eyes of the contributors
to erect the statue in Addis Ababa.
